Managing Closure Dates
What Are Closure Dates?
Closure dates are specific days when a location is not operating. Unlike operating days (which define the weekly pattern), closure dates handle one-off closures like holidays, renovations, or company events.
Adding Closure Dates
- Navigate to Locations and select a location
- Go to the Closure Dates tab
- Click Add Closure Date
- Select the date or date range
- Optionally add a reason (e.g., "Christmas Day", "Annual maintenance")
- Save
How Closures Affect Scheduling
When a location has a closure date:
- The schedule builder knows not to generate slots for that date
- If you create a draft that spans a closure date, the closed day is excluded from coverage requirements
- Existing shifts on a closure date may be flagged for review
Closure dates are specific to each location. If you have multiple locations, you can set different closure dates for each one.
Removing a Closure Date
If plans change and the location will be open after all:
- Go to the location's Closure Dates tab
- Find the closure date
- Click Remove or Delete
Closures vs. Holidays
- Holidays (in Settings) are organization-wide and informational. They mark dates on the calendar but do not automatically close locations.
- Closure dates are location-specific and actively prevent scheduling on those dates.
Use holidays for awareness and closure dates for actual closures. If all your locations close on a holiday, add it as a closure date on each location.
Tips
- Plan ahead: Add known closure dates (holidays, company events) at the beginning of the year
- Communicate early: Let employees know about closures as soon as they are decided
- Check for conflicts: Before adding a closure date, check if any employees are already scheduled for that day
