Setting Up Public Holidays
Accessing Holiday Settings
Navigate to Settings > Holidays from the settings sidebar.
Enabling Holidays
- Toggle Enable Holidays to turn on holiday support
- Select your Country from the dropdown
- Optionally select a Region for regional holidays (e.g., specific states or provinces)
- CrewHR automatically imports the public holidays for your selection
What Gets Imported
CrewHR pulls public holiday data based on your country and region. This includes national holidays and, where applicable, regional observances.
Each holiday shows:
- Holiday name
- Date
- Whether it is a national or regional holiday
How Holidays Affect Scheduling
On the Schedule View
Holidays are visually marked on the schedule calendar so you can easily see which days are public holidays.
With Coverage Requirements
Holidays do not automatically change your coverage requirements. If your location is open on a holiday, you still need to schedule staff. If your location closes on holidays, use closure dates to mark the location as closed.
With Leave Policies
Holidays can interact with time-off requests. If an employee requests time off over a holiday period, the holiday may or may not count as a leave day depending on your policy settings.
Updating Holidays
Holidays refresh based on the current year. When a new year begins, CrewHR updates the holiday list for the upcoming year.
If you change your country or region selection, the holiday list updates to reflect the new location.
Tips
- Set your country during initial setup: Holiday configuration is most useful when done early so schedules account for holidays from the start
- Use closure dates for location-specific closures: If only some locations close on a holiday, use closure dates on those specific locations rather than relying on the global holiday setting
- Communicate holiday schedules early: Let employees know as far in advance as possible whether they will need to work on holidays
